3 Ways to Banish Holiday Stress!

While it is supposed to be the most cheerful and joyous time of the year, we all know that it can be a struggle at times to not become stressed over all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. There are a few ways to banish holiday stress so that it doesn't ruin your Christmas cheer!
1. Forget the Perfectionism!
I think most of us, especially us women, want everything to be perfect around the holidays. We set unrealistic goals for ourselves, such as I am going to find the perfect gift for everyone in my family or My Christmas meal is going to be flawless. Well, friends, unfortunately the perfectionist in us will do nothing but stress us out. Nobody is perfect and striving too hard to be perfect can cause stress and anxiety. Do your best and enjoy your Christmas holiday with your family - they don't expect you to be perfect either!
2. Practice Moderation!
For those of us that are currently on a journey to becoming more healthy and more "in-shape", the Christmas season can be stressful as we try to stick to our new habits. As your family is preparing meals likely filled with calories and fat, you're super stressed about totally falling off the wagon. As someone in the fitness field, I hear this from women all the time - I also am guilty. I sometimes feel like if I allow myself to splurge, that I am going to suddenly gain my 35 pounds back that I lost this year. Well, this is just not true. I say practice moderation - don't deprive yourself of Grandma's pecan pie that you only get once per year if you want a slice. Practice moderation, don't eat the whole pie, and realize that splurging a bit during the holidays will not derail all progress you've made. Just don't go overboard and you'll be just fine, I promise.
3. Take Time for Yourself!
Attention!! It is not selfish to take some time for yourself! Most of us feel guilty, especially during the holidays, if we try to take some me time. We all need to recharge our batteries, especially during the holidays. When you start to feel your stress levels rise, I am sure your family would appreciate if you took 30 minutes to go for a run or pop in a workout DVD to rid yourself of some of that stress. So take some time and sneak off to the nail salon for a quick manicure or take a bubble bath - your family and friends will appreciate a more zen you.

The Positive Side of Fear and Phobias

Your fears protect you from numerous dangers. Whenever you are facing a dangerous situation you are alarmed by intense fear. This sensation has a protective function.
When you are afraid that something bad may happen to you, you are very careful. When you are indifferent to dangerous situations and you are not alarmed by any fear even though you are in danger, you don't pay attention to what you are doing. You may fall into a trap only because of your negligence.
Most people try to eliminate their fears, believing that they are unjustified and that their fears have only a negative meaning. However, the main function of every fear is protective. When you are afraid you don't make the mistakes you usually do when you are relaxed and distracted.
All heroes always are afraid of the dangerous situations they have to face. Nobody passes through dangerous experiences without feeling how dangerous they really are thanks to their fears.
When you are afraid, you understand that you have to be serious. You understand that you are in trouble.
Don't be afraid of your fears. You must be afraid of many dangers because this is how you will be careful and protect yourself. You should in fact be afraid of your indifference to dangerous situations.
However, your fears may cause a paralysis, and have a negative effect. This means that you must be able to show courage, besides being afraid.
Therefore, if you are insecure and afraid, the real solution for you is not the elimination of your fears. You have to pass through dangerous situations while you are afraid of what could happen to you. This is how you will become strong and learn how to show courage in life, even when you are afraid. You will also stop having unjustified fears generated by absurd thoughts.
You will be helped by translating the meaning of your dreams because the unconscious mind gives you information about your reality and about what could happen to you in the future. You learn how to protect yourself and how to prepare positive future results.
The unconscious mind is God's mind. This is a scientific and religious truth that will completely change the world now that I managed to simplify and clarify the complicated, obscure, and time consuming method of dream interpretation discovered by Carl Jung.
This is the only method that accurately translates God's words in dreams because Jung looked for the meaning of the dream language like an archaeologist who was looking for the meaning of an ancient language. He didn't distort the meaning of dreams with his suppositions. I precisely followed his lessons, based on his method of dream interpretation. This means that I didn't distort the meaning of dreams with my suppositions.
I precisely followed Carl Jung's method in order to discover the meaning of many dream symbols. I was even more obedient to the divine guidance in dreams. I was even more obedient to the divine guidance in dreams. This is why I could discover what exists into the unknown region of our brain and psyche.
The scientific translations are complicated because we have to analyze numerous details and relate this information to many other details. You are lucky because I managed to simplify this process, besides discovering the meaning of numerous dream symbols that Jung had mentioned without explaining their meaning.
Today you have a safe method of psychotherapy, mind empowerment, and spiritual evolution because you can easily understand the complex dream language thanks to my simplifications, and first of all, thanks to Carl Jung's discoveries. My research and my discoveries complete Carl Jung's work, proving to the world that everyone must learn his method of dream interpretation instead of wasting time with false methods.
The divine unconscious mind that produces your dreams will show you all the dangers you will have to face in the future, so that you may avoid falling into dangerous traps. You will be protected by precious knowledge, but you will have to be a hero in numerous occasions. You won't be a cowardly and hypocritical actor. Your presence and your work must help the world find wisdom and peace.
This means that you won't be superficial and indifferent. You will defend God's justice, which is based on forgiveness and compassion. God's justice also condemns what is bad.
Human beings should be afraid of God's punishments, but most people don't believe in God's existence. Even when they do, they tend to believe that God forgives everything because He understands our imperfections.
God is a true angel, and this is why He cannot accept our evilness. Everyone is punished through many ways in our dangerous planet, which was specially created with the intention to work like a psychotherapeutical hospital for our insanity. We are in fact demons who received a tiny human conscience from God. This is why we are punished through numerous ways in our hostile planet, where numerous natural catastrophes, diseases, insects, and dangerous wild animals threaten our survival.
The fact that we should be afraid of God is another reason why having fears is positive. When you are a conscious human being and you understand that you must pay attention to your behavior, you understand that you cannot act like a child, you cannot be violent and unfair, and you cannot be inconsequential and indifferent to the human pain.
A sensible and sensitive person always is afraid to hurt other people's feelings. A sensible and sensitive person is afraid of numerous other dangers and their consequences.

If you are a wise human being, you are afraid of what is bad and this is why you always are very careful.
Violent people are not afraid of anyone. They are aggressive and rude. Peaceful people always are afraid of violent people because they know that those who are violent don't respect anyone.
We feel safe when we are with people who are afraid of numerous dangers, and therefore, respect numerous laws. We are afraid of those who disrespect everyone and everything.
Those who disrespect others and don't care about the general well-being are not afraid of anything because they are controlled by their absurd and evil anti-conscience, which is their primitive conscience. Those who respect God's justice are afraid of God's punishments because they have a strong human conscience and they don't want to be evil. They want to be with God and have His protection.
Therefore, the meaning of fear is not always negative. As a matter of fact, fear is negative only when it is generated by your anti-conscience.
When your fears are the result of your comprehension of all the dangers that are threatening your peace of mind, these fears are protecting your mental health and your safety. When your fears are the result of your comprehension of the behavioral mistakes you are making while you shouldn't behave this way, these fears are alarming your conscience. They are showing you that you have to stop making mistakes and remember God's guidance.
All phobias are the consequences of behavioral mistakes. A phobia is a punishment and a protection.
You become very afraid of something whenever you make serious mistakes because these mistakes are gradually making you lose your mind. You have to understand that what you are doing is very dangerous for your mental stability.
You can understand the meaning of every phobia by learning the symbolic dream language because all phobias are clearly explained when we understand the symbolic meaning of what someone is afraid of. For example, those who have an irrational fear of spiders are very afraid of the future consequences of their negligence because they are making costly mistakes that will have tragic consequences.
The spider in dreams represents the necessity to act fast in order to correct a big mistake before it is too late. If you suffer from arachnophobia - what means that you have an abnormal fear of spiders, this means that you are afraid of what may happen to you in the future. You have to urgently stop making mistakes.
You will be helped through dream translation because the unconscious mind gives you clear guidance. You will understand your mistakes, and you will also understand how to correct every mistake and become a wise and sensitive human being.
Christina Sponias continued Carl Jung's research into the human psyche, discovering the cure for all mental illnesses, and simplifying the scientific method of dream interpretation that teaches you how to exactly translate the meaning of your dreams, so that you can find health, wisdom and happiness.

Four Magical Tips to Improve Your Memory

Aristotle's famous quote "Man is by nature a social animal" is quite true. We all are animals, but the thing that separates us from animals is the ability to use our brains. God has given us a brain which we can use and achieve the impossible. It was only a human brain that invented computers, a gadget that totally changed the life of human beings.
An important part of a having a good brain is to have a good memory. Today, in this competitive world everyone wants to stay ahead of others and that is only possible if you have a good memory. Even in the professional world one has to be mentally sharp in order to be a successful professional. There are different ways through which you can increase your memory power. Applying the below mentioned four tips can help you to achieve success in the academic as well as professional life.
Tip 1: Do not skip exercise and sleep. Both of them are equally important to nurture your brain. Exercising every day helps to intake oxygen in adequate amount inside your brain thereby activating the brain cells and thus improving the memory power.
Not having adequate sleep weakens the brain cells thereby reducing the creative capacity, problem solving abilities and analytical skills. Research has shown that during a deep sleep important memory enhancing activity takes place.
Tip 2: Keep good relationship with people. A study done by Harvard School of Public Health shows that people engaged in social life or interacting with others have a very good memory power. There are numerous ways on how we can improve the memory by frequent interactions with people such as joining an NGO and indulging in some activity or speaking with friends and relatives over the phone.
Laughing is yet another interesting way that always keeps the brain active and the memory sharp. Listening to jokes stimulates parts of the brain. If you are not able to do it then you can start laughing at yourself by explaining the most embarrassing situations of your life to friends.
Tip 3: Avoid taking too much stress. Taking too much stress destroys hippocampus, part of the brain from where all the creative ideas come out. Meditation is one of the most effective ways to drive away stress from the body. Studies have shown that people who meditate regularly enjoy life to the fullest.
Many people go in to depression and suffer from fatigue by taking too much stress as a result of which they are not able to focus on any work that they perform.
Tip 4: Have a healthy diet. Just as protein is necessary in order to have a muscular body; in the same way, our brain also needs quality food to keep it active all the time. Eating fruits and vegetables helps to prevent the cells of the brain from getting damaged. Green tea also works wonderfully and helps to improve the memory.
Consuming wine in moderation also helps to activate the brain cells, but it should not be consumed daily.
Hence applying the four simple tips you can see a drastic change in your memory in just a few days.

Is mental illness hereditary?

Only Kids Have Fears Of The Dark - Right?

It was a cold night in the year 2010 at the peak of my generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks, there I was in my 'man cave' playing the victim and feeling sorry for the people that cared about me and what I was putting them through. To this day I vividly remember the way I walked up those stairs to the main living room every night alone and scared. I remember keeping the light on in the staircase, and flipping the switch with a long stick that I made once I made it to the top. I also remember always looking back down the staircase as if some presence was watching me the whole time, that gave me the heebie-jeebies every time!
The fear or phobia was never about the darkness itself, but the imagined dangers concealed by the darkness. Funny enough though when someone was with me downstairs and for some reason I had to make my way back up the stairs, even if it was in the dark things were relatively calm, cool and for the most part effortless. What I learned through that cycle of panic I went through during those times dealing with my fears of the dark was that when our primary sense of sight is taken away from us, we get into a state of panic. So the memory of this panic is stored and of course whenever things get dark guess what, the cycle of panic begins... but why? Simply because our sense of hearing becomes heightened, and a small crackling sound automatically comes with a million different questions sent to our protective minds.
Facing The Fear In Small Doses
OK, so I know you've heard it all before and so have I... if you fear something face it and eventually it will go away. But I want to be a little more specific about what I did to stop the biggest fear that we all hate to admit the most. Step by step I started with:
1) Understanding that having generalized anxiety disorder comes with a big imagination, this reality check becomes hugely important.
2) A SYSTEMATIC approach to facing the fear of darkness starting with watching a funny movie that included many dark moments in it, I suggest (scary movie) which then makes you look at the dark in more of a sensible and comedic way, having someone stay the night with me downstairs where my fears mainly take place, having a nightlight and spending the night downstairs on my own, and finally looking fear right in the face and sleeping the entire night on my own (the systematic approach can be broken down into many much smaller pieces though).
There's nothing to be ashamed of here that's for sure, back in the historic cave-dwelling days being afraid of the dark was a good thing and helped people survive potential attacks from numerous types of beasts. There's nothing to fear... but fear itself and nothing can bring greater relief than to challenge the fear and restructure your idea of what darkness is.

Agoraphobia - A Very Common Phobia

For many, it's often much more difficult, if not impossible, to do these things alone, though some suffering from agoraphobia may manage to go out and about if accompanied by a person they trust.
All the above different situations stem from one underlying fear. That is, a fear of being in a place where you are overwhelmed by panic, no help is available, and you'll find it difficult if not impossible to escape to a safe place (usually to your home). When you are in a feared place you become very anxious and distressed, and have an intense desire to get out. So while panic disorder underpins agoraphobia, people may suffer from panic disorder with or without agoraphobia. To avoid this anxiety and panic many people with agoraphobia stay inside their home for most or all of the time. Sadly however they can then experience panic attacks even in their home, and so feel they have to have someone with them at all times.
Agoraphobia and panic disorder affect around 5% of the population. Agoraphobia is twice as likely to affect women compared to men, and most commonly occurs between ages 25-35. Without help, it can be a lifelong problem.
Agoraphobia affects up to one third of people with panic disorder. The person will often try to avoid places where they are likely to have panic attacks, and while avoidance can be successful to some degree in keeping panic attacks at bay, the restrictions on a person's life usually just keep increasing, and affect both the person and those close to them.
The difference between men and women may be due to several factors:
• Women are often in our society encouraged to use avoidance as a way of coping with things that feel too difficult, and to behave in ways which make them more dependent and helpless
• Women may be more likely to seek help and therefore be diagnosed more frequently
• Men may use alcohol to try and deal with the problem
In some severe cases the anxiety disorder can have an extreme impact on a person's life.
A recent article in the Daily Mail tells a story of a young girl unable to leave the home environment to attend Job Centre. The consequences of this are far reaching.
Treatment Options
The treatment options for agoraphobia which research shows to be most effective are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and antidepressant medication. CBT can either be in the form of guided self-help e.g. using a book, computerised programme or watching a DVD or having individual or group sessions with a qualified mental health professional.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) works on the principle that your behaviour and emotions depend largely on your perception of what you understand is happening. What you think and anticipate can affect your reaction to events and people. Having understood what you are thinking and how to deal with your thoughts, it is possible to train yourself to respond in a different way. This new thinking and behaviour style can then lead to a potentially more satisfying way of life, becoming part of your normal lifestyle.
Antidepressant medicines are commonly used to treat depression, but can also help to reduce the symptoms of phobias. You don't have to suffer from depression to be diagnosed with these medications. They work by interfering with brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) such as serotonin which may be involved in the anxiety symptoms.
What is the Success Rate of CBT?
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques have been developed from extensive research.
Studies indicate that treatments for psychological disorders based on CBT principles:
• Are particularly effective for common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, panic disorder, phobias (including agoraphobia and social phobia), stress, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and difficulties with anger.
• Can help if you have a low opinion of yourself, or physical health problems like pain or fatigue
• Can also be useful in conjunction with medication to help manage more severe mental health problems like bipolar disorder (previously called "manic-depression" and other forms of psychosis)
• Are as effective as medication in treating many psychological disorders and have been shown in some studies to be more effective in effecting long-lasting change and preventing relapse.
There are many celebrities who, it is reported, have at some point suffered with agoraphobia. Difficulties are raised in the media which can help shift the stigma associated with these very common debilitating disorders and enables more people to come forward and seek help.

5 Important Questions To Ask Your Mental Health Specialist

If you are referred to a mental health specialist, there are important questions you need to be ready to ask. It's always best to go prepared because during the consultation, you may be nervous and forget to mention something that concerns you. It's quite natural to feel this way, especially in the early stages of being diagnosed.
But thankfully, the professionals dealing with these issues are very understanding and will always be ready and willing to answer anything that may concern you. So don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand, or need further clarification. Whatever you want to ask, however trivial you may think it to be, they won't mind a bit.
At first, when you suspect that you may have a problem, the best thing to do is write down all the symptoms you think you may have, such as:
  • feeling down all the time
  • not wanting to socialize
  • loss of appetite
By doing this, it will help your mental health specialist to recommend a course of treatment for you. As I have already said, being nervous may make you forget something important. Seeking help from a professional about mental health issues is one of the things that people (especially men) are reluctant to do anyway.
So what questions should you be asking?
  1. What treatments are available? There are three main options at this stage that the specialist would probably advise on - talk therapy, medication, or a combination of both. You will more than likely decide together which one to follow first, and it may be that you will change treatments later depending on the results you have, successful or not.

  2. What possible side effects do the medications have? Prescribed drugs have different effects on different people, so it will really be a case of try it and see. If you experience any side effects at all, however minor, it's always best to consult your own doctor or mental health specialist.

  3. How will my illness affect me? It's important to know what to expect in the future weeks and months, especially if you have only recently begun to feel unwell.

  4. When will I feel better again? This will depend on what type of illness you have and how well you respond to treatment.

  5. What exactly am I suffering from? Your mental health specialist will have all the knowledge to explain to you what type of illness you have, and what will be required to get you well again.
These are just the tip of the iceberg, but they're a good starting point. The more you know and understand about your health problem, the quicker and better your recovery should be, so ask questions and make sure you get answers that will benefit you. Professional mental health specialist have the training, compassion and expertise to get you through your illness, and are there to help in any way they can.
