WASHINGTON -- The federal government says 1 in 5 American adults suffered from mental disorder in the past year . The majority didn't receive treatment .
A study being launched Thursday by the Substance Abuse and also Mental Health Services Administration discovered that forty-five million experienced some form of mental disorder in 2011 , from major depressive disorders to more serious troubles such as suicide attempts . Fewer than four in ten obtained treatment for their psychological health condition .
The survey discovered a strong link between psychological health problems and alcohol addiction and drug abuse . Mental disorder was also more likely among the jobless , young adults and ladies . Overall , more than eightmillion had serious ideas of suicide , and one million tried to carry them out .
